Sea Otter Classic has added team adventure racing to their schedule. Cross-country running and riding with map skills, orienteering and surprise problem solving are all part of the recipe for serious enjoyment. Fort Ord, where the Sea Otter Classic takes place, has plenty of space to host a great event. Give it a shot.
The Sea Otter is too high to compete in serious downhill events. However, the promoter found a way to route the Super D course in Fort Ords’ coastal foothills. Super D allows racers to experience a predominantly downhill course using the same type of dual-suspension medium-travel bikes that most mountain bikers around the world use. Super D is the only event directly related to the majority the sport and it’s why the venue is growing rapidly.
The Sea Otter Classic features events such as Dual Slalom and Downhill and a Pro Road Circuit Race and Pro Mountain Bike Short Track (The Hurricane of Pain), an Invitational Dirt Jump and Road and Mountain Bike Recreational Rides. There are also Bike Rodeos and BMX Demos. The Expo and Sea Otter Village are the hub of all the action. They host the largest outdoor bike tradeshow in the world, with nearly 300 vendors and lots of family-friendly activities.
The Otter’s spectacle was free until this season. However, the venue charges ten clams per day to view and shop. A 30-dollar pass is available for children under 12.
