In today’s world, it is no longer common to have a box spring and a metal frame supporting your mattress. People now sleep on adjustable, platform, canopy, and box spring-supported mattresses.

Nightstands have become increasingly popular because of this trend. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Nightstand shoppers may find it difficult to choose, especially if they don’t know what they want.

Proper Nightstand Height

The surface of your nightstand should be at least 2-10 cm higher than the mattress’s surface. It is much easier to reach above the bed to grab something than it is to reach below.

Also, a taller nightstand will prevent you from having to bend over when you are standing up or reaching for something. A mattress’s average height is 64 cm. Commercial nightstands range from 61 to 71 cm.

There Are Three Main Types Of Nightstands

Nightstands come in many sizes. We could go on forever listing every type of nightstand, as we have already mentioned. In general, there are three types. Three types of people are the most common.

The Bedside ChestThese nightstands are great for those who need a little more storage space to store their socks and underwear. Because they have a few drawers for storage, A mini dresser is a piece that can be placed right next to your bed.

Bedside CabinetsThe bedside cabinet looks similar to a bedside chest, but it has additional storage. It is divided between two drawers, and you’ll be able to see it as a cupboard. This is useful for larger items like an alarm clock, but it’s still within reach of your bedside.

Side TableBedside tables are more about aesthetics and function than functionality. Some may even include a drawer for extra storage. They are primarily designed to hold small items, such as a lamp, or houseplant, and look great.

Make Sure You Take Proper Measurements

Before you start your search for the perfect nightstand, or two if you are looking for a matching pair, you’ll first need to measure the height of your mattress on its bed frame. Remember that your next nightstand should be at least 2 inches higher than your mattress.

Imagine your mattress resting on a platform base. Your dimension might be 46 cm at the lowest. Your dimension may be slightly higher if you have a canopy bed, adjustable bed frame, or a bed that is slatted.

You can see that there is a significant gap between them. Therefore, you need to make sure your next nightstand steps correctly up to your bed.

You should also consider its width, thickness, size, and how it compares to your bed when you are looking for a nightstand.

Nightstands that are thicker than 61cm should be avoided. This will prevent you from bumping into them as you get in and out of bed. There are few things more painful than accidentally hitting your shin on a hard surface, especially if it is in a sharp corner.

Additional Considerations When Choosing A Nightstand

Storage SpaceWhat is the value of additional storage space? Are you looking for additional storage space to store your newspapers, digital chords and sleeping masks? You might prefer a bedside cabinet or chest if this is the case. Although a table may look great in your bedroom it will not work as you would like.

Tabletop Area:All of this is about the height of a nightstand. The tabletop of a nightstand’s top is not something we have even considered. It all depends on what you put on your nightstand.

Most nightstands can accommodate a small water bottle and lamp.

You might be like McKenzie (Slumber Yard member McKenzie), and keep an essential oil diffuser and decorative lamp on your nightstand. You’ll still need to ensure that the shirt you choose has an appropriate sized surface.

Nightstand fashion:You should consider the style of your bedroom before you choose the nightstand. Make sure it matches the rest of your furniture.

There are hundreds of nightstands on the market, both in-store and online. So you can find the right one! You just need to do some research to find the right one.
